Betty Wooten Obituary

Betty was born in Palatine, Illinois on July 13, 1933, to Lawrence E. and Christine (Meyn) Hodges. At 91, after a short illness, she was called home on December 16, 2024. She resided in Deland, FL for the past 12 years; previously she was a resident of Ormond Beach, FL and Mt. Prospect, IL. She was of the Lutheran faith. A service of Witness to the Resurrection and Celebration of the Life of Betty Wooten will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at First Presbyterian Church, 724 Woodland Blvd, Deland, FL at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert Wooten; and her brothers, Larry Hodges and James Hodges. She is survived by her four children, Cathy Janney (Mark) of Waxhaw, NC; Gale Mattson (Paul) of Deland, FL; Mark Wooten (Pam) of Jupiter, FL; and Kimberly Wooten (Trina) of Charleston, WV; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her sister in law, Naomi Hodges; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. For many years, Betty and Gil were the proud owner/operators of Burger Chef restaurants in Ormond Beach and Holly Hill. They were also charter members of Faith Lutheran Church, Ormond Beach, where she served as secretary. Later, Betty proudly studied to become a certified nurse assistant. That career brought her much joy as she worked in a hospital, nursing home and in private duty care of the elderly. Betty loved music and was a member of Sweet Adelines, Daytona Beach. Her interests included animals, camping, ancestry research, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, all card games and baking. Her remains will be interred in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Mt. Prospect, IL in the spring.
