Brenda B. Thompson
November 27, 1949 – September 25, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep love, we remember Brenda B. Thompson, who passed away peacefully on September 25, 2025, in DeLand, Florida, at the age of 75. Born on November 27, 1949, in Macon, Georgia. Brenda was a vibrant, creative, and loving woman who made everyone feel like family. She was a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend and in every role, she brought warmth, laughter, and light. Brenda is survived by her children, Phaedra Samuel (Greg) and Shan Thompson (Michelle); and her adored grandchildren, Dalton (Katie), Cole (Kenzie), Bodie, and Jolene, each of whom brought her immeasurable pride and joy. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald Brown. Brenda was preceded in death by her loving parents, Nan Lou and Emmett (Emmitt) Brown. Family meant everything to Brenda. Whether through her art, her handmade gifts, homemade cherry coke or her open arms, she made it known how deeply she loved. She had a true passion for crafting and rarely let a holiday or celebration pass without creating something meaningful for those she cherished. Her garden was a reflection of her soul: colorful, growing, and full of life. Brenda also poured decades of energy and dedication into her professional life. She proudly served in the Purchasing Department of Volusia County, where she became affectionately known as the “Queen of Auctioneers.” Her talent for organizing, negotiating, and leading took her across the country, earning respect and admiration everywhere she went. She also devoted time to working with FEMA, finding herself working her way up through the Emergency management Institute and becoming an emergency manager, a reflection of her lifelong commitment to helping people and serving her community in times of greatest need. Outside of work, Brenda found joy in dancing, music, and surrounded herself with beauty. She was never seen without her beloved jewelry and always adding sparkle wherever she went. Her home was filled with her whimsical chicken collection, each one with its own charm, and her loyal dog, Dixie, who stayed faithfully by her side. She made friends easily and kept them close, sharing laughter, stories, and kindness throughout the years. Brenda had a way of making people feel seen and special, and that love would live on in all of us. We will miss her deeply, but we carry her spirit with us in every painted rock, every shared memory, and every small act of love. We will look for her in rainbows, in blooming gardens, in the joy of shared laughter, and in the quiet moments filled with music and color. Brenda’s love lives on in all of us in every story, every brushstroke, and every flower planted with care.
