B. Carrol Wetherington of DeLand, FL and Key West, FL passed away on Friday evening, June 7, 2024 at Halifax Hospice in Orange City, due to complications with Parkinson’s Disease. He is survived by his wife, Trena Ruth Parks Wetherington, daughters Roxann Rene Nocco (Paul); Marina Carol Zarbeck, (Timothy): Kendra Kee Murley, (Jason); grandchildren Gabrielle, and Anthony Nocco, and brother Alan James Wetherington. Carrol was born in Polk City, Florida in 1946 to Claude Hampton “Boots” Wetherington and Ora Lee Wilson Wetherington. He is predeceased by sisters Claudia Marie Quinn (Dale, nephews Anthony and Alan) of Hoover, Alabama; and Barbara Gail Simpson (Joe, nephew Greg and niece Lisa) of Merritt Island, Florida.
Carrol owned and operated DeLand Garden Center, Mid-cities Nursery, Carrol’s Marine Center, The Orange City Mighty Mall, the Mighty Mall Thrift Shop, and his favorite, US 1 Marina boat rental and sales in Key West. He was an avid fisherman who always “went catching” not fishing, especially in the blue waters many miles from the Florida keys nearly to Cuba and as far as the Dry Tortugas catching dolphin, grouper, snapper and wahoo.
He was published in the People’s Poet Anthologies of London, England with some of his over a thousand poems in free verse.
He loved to walk in our neighborhood stopping to talk with any neighbor or their children who might be outside. He will be greatly missed for his vast knowledge, great sense of humor, and endless stories, by all who loved him.
