Doris Edith (Volz) Candalino

Heaven gained an angel with the passing of Doris Edith Candalino, 94, on May 24, 2025 at Blue Palms Rehab Center in DeLand.

Born on June 12, 1930, in New York, New York, Doris was the daughter of Evelyn Meyer and Albert Volz. She spent her early years in Long Island, NY, where she met and married the love of her life, Adolph J. Candalino. Together, they raised their family before relocating to Florida in 1969. Adolph preceded her in death in 2002.

Doris dedicated much of her working life to serving as a librarian, a role that reflected her deep love of learning and community. A lifelong and devoted member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in DeLand, she was active in the choir, Rebecca Circle prayer group, and Vacation Bible School. 

In her later years at Blue Palms, Doris enjoyed doing puzzles, playing bingo and dominoes with her friends, and watching her beloved New York Yankees. 

She is survived by her children: Joan (Tom), James (Bonnie), Patricia (Tim), Marie (Chris), and Ellen (David). She was predeceased by her son Joseph (Kathleen). Doris was a cherished grandmother to ten grandchildren and great-grandmother to fourteen. She was also “Aunt Doris” to eight loving nieces and nephews. Family was everything to Doris, and she treasured time spent with her loved ones during holidays, birthdays, and special gatherings.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 4, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 5, at 10:00 AM at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, followed by a reception. A committal service will take place at 12:30 PM at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
