Elinor (Speicher) Spacek

Elinor (Ellie) Spacek passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on April 4, 2025, in DeLand, FL. Ellie was born in Peekskill, NY, and raised in Ardsley, NY. She and her husband Joe moved to Florida in 1994 from Wilmington, DE. She was the daughter of the late Claude and Myrtle Speicher of Daytona Beach. She was a graduate of Providence Bible Institute (RI) and Taylor University (IN), where she met her husband. Together they served in Christian ministry in Hawaii for 13 years.

Ellie assisted her husband in his own company focused on Christian school development. She later worked for the Delaware Association of the Blind as Director of their Peer Support Service. She felt rewarded in her work with the blind and also in missionary work in Hawaii. She loved being near the water and walking the beach. Other lifelong hobbies were traveling, reading, playing the piano, and keeping albums about family history.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children: Marilyn (Bob) Prettyman, Bear, DE; Sharon Spacek, The Villages, FL; David (Susan) Spacek, Huntsville, AL; Thomas (Jennifer) Spacek, Wheaton, IL; Eric (Jennifer) Spacek, Port Orange, FL. She is also survived by two sisters, Claudia Killian and Marion (Gordon) Brown and one brother, John (Ramona) Speicher, thirteen wonderful grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Ellie’s life will be held on April 26, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Alliance Chapel, 600 S. Florida Ave., DeLand, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ellie’s name may be made to The Friendship Fund at the Alliance Community (same address as above) or Christian Missions in Many Lands, www.cmml.us.
