Elizabeth Peterman Obituary

Elizabeth “Joann” Peterman, age 87, passed peacefully on April 6, 2026, with her beloved daughter, Verna, and her husband, Terry, by her side.

Joann was born on September 23, 1938, in the small, quaint town of Osteen, Florida, to her wonderful parents, Vivian P. Allman and Flora Juna Allman. She was a lifelong member of the Osteen Methodist Church.

During high school, Joann began working at Holler Chevrolet in DeLand as a bookkeeper, where she met the love of her life, Francis Carroll “Pete” Peterman. They were married on August 19, 1962. They built a home in Enterprise, across the street from Enterprise Elementary School, moved there in 1964, and had one child, Verna Hope Peterman Updike.

Joann volunteered at Enterprise Elementary School while her daughter attended classes. When Verna began high school, Joann started working at the Enterprise Post Office, where she had a long career and was admired by residents for her cheerful, helpful, and caring demeanor.

Joann enjoyed traveling with Pete on bus tours across the country and especially loved cruising with her sister, Joyce. She was an avid bowler, participating in a women’s league for many decades. She loved reading and was a wonderful cook. Some of her happiest times were spent with her mother, sister, and extended family, preparing, canning, and preserving fresh vegetables from her father’s and husband’s gardens.

Her beloved husband, Pete Peterman, preceded her in death in 2019, and she remained in the Enterprise home until moving to DeLand in 2022 to live with her daughter, Verna, and son-in-law, Terry Updike.

Joann is survived by her older brother, Jasper “J.L.” Allman (94), of Osteen, Florida; her sister, Joyce Clutter Parker (91), of Osteen, Florida; and her younger brother, Paul Allman, of Inglis, Florida, and his wife, Catherine Allman. She was also very close to her sister-in-law, Theresa Coulliette (deceased).

She was cherished by her nieces and nephews: William Clutter, Dwayne Clutter, Cindy Clutter, Brenda Clutter Chestnut, Jake Allman, Johnny Allman, Tracy Allman, James Carroll Coulliette (deceased), Van Alan Coulliette (deceased), Charles Coulliette, and Linda Coulliette. She was also deeply loved by her son-in-law, Terry Updike, as well as her three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Joann was a kind, loving, and beautiful soul who will be missed by many family members and friends.
