Gareth Williams

Gareth Williams died on September 18, 2023 at the age of 86. He was raised in Glynceiriog, Wales, until he was in high school when the family moved to Old Colwyn. He got his PhD in math at the University of Wales in Bangor then went to Gainesville, FL where he was a professor of math at the University of Florida. While there he met Donna Knapp, and they married on June 15, 1965.

He accepted a job at the University of Denver, where he taught for 8 years. During this time their two sons Brian Glyn and Jeffrey Bryn were born. In 1973 they moved to DeLand where he was a professor at Stetson University until he retired in 2001. An accomplished soccer player in Wales, he also brought the game to the US and helped create the first soccer programs in DeLand.

He and Donna continued to live in DeLand until his death. During his career he wrote a number of math text books and won teacher of the year at Stetson University. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Gareth is survived by his wife Donna, sons and two grandsons and his sister Mona Pringle and her husband Peter.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the Blue Palms (Good Samaritan) chapel on 450 N McDonald Ave, DeLand, Fl.
