Garnet Stevens Obituary

Garnet Thompson Stevens, of Deltona, Florida, died peacefully at Advent Health Hospice Center on March 1st, 2025. Garnet was born March 26, 1922, in Lawrence County, Kentucky. The daughter of the late Winfield Scott and Lilly Travis Thompson. She was a member of Liberty Independent Baptist Church in DeLand, Florida attending for over 40 years. Garnet loved her large family and faithfully attended the annual family reunion. Which has been held for 51 years. As a young woman, Garnet supported the war effort during WWII. She traveled by train from Boyd County, Kentucky to Ypsilanti, MI, where she worked assembling airplanes at the Ford Motor Company. She returned to Ashland, Kentucky working for the Clayton & Lambert Factory, making 40 millimeter shells for the war effort. This is where she met her husband of 63 years. Eventually, she moved to Florida, where she retired from the West Volusia Hospital. Garnet was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her husband, Elmer Stevens, her daughter, Phyllis Russell, 5 brothers, Clarence, Charles, Lonnie, James, and H.B Thompson, and 4 sisters; Julia Senters, Millie Lou Sammons, Maggie Preston, and Cora Holbrook. She is survived by her daughter, Olivia, and husband Michael Mulloy. 3 Grandsons Brian (Mayra) Russell, Michael (Sarah) Mulloy, and Sean (Tanya) Mulloy. 7 great-grand children, Jessica Colon, Christopher Russell, Michael, Gianna, Sofia, Nathan, and Rhylynne Mulloy. A host of nieces and nephews. Garnet's funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Allen Summerhill Funeral Home in Deland, Florida and Steen Funeral Home in Ashland, Kentucky. Visitation will be held at the Steen Funeral Home in Ashland, Kentucky on Sunday, March 9th from 4pm to 6pm. Pastor Slade Rickels from Liberty Independent Baptist Church, Deland, Fl will be officiating. The funeral will be held at Steen Funeral Home on Monday at 11am. Burial will follow at the Dixon Cemetery in Westwood, Kentucky.
