Gerald Lawson Gill, 79 of DeLand passed away on July 20, 2025 at AdventHealth DeLand. He was born in DeLand, Florida on January 2, 1946. His career took him to live in Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach and in 1984 Jerry moved back to DeLand which has been home base ever since. Jerry and his wife Roxanne have a home in Blairsville, GA as well where they spend half their time. Jerry attended elementary school and high school in DeLand Florida. He was an outstanding athlete in both baseball and football at DeLand High School. Upon graduation in 1965, he accepted a full ride double scholarship for baseball and football at Eastern Kentucky University, graduating with a degree in Business Education. Jerry completed his master's degree at Nova Southeastern University. Jerry spent his career coaching baseball and football at Mainland High School and was head football coach at Seabreeze High School in the 1980's. He was the Dean of Students at Mainland High School and became Assistant Principal at Spruce Creek High School and then Principal of Orange City Elementary. He also served as a volunteer reserve police officer in Ormond Beach. Upon his retirement in 1999, Jerry earned his Real Estate License and worked as a Realtor with Swann & Associates. Jerry has been actively involved in church and Christian service and ministry since childhood. He was involved with youth group leadership at First Baptist Church in Daytona Beach where his family worshiped during their years as residents in both Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach. Upon moving back to DeLand in 1984 Jerry became very active at Stetson Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and Chairman of the Pastor Search Committee. Upon retirement Jerry and his wife, Roxanne, spent several years traveling all across America, Canada, and Newfoundland in an RV. After travelling they settled down in Blairsville GA where they live during the summer months. He attends of First Baptist Church of Blairsville when in Georgia. Jerry and Roxanne joined the Gideon ministry while in Blairsville. Jerry has spoken in many churches sharing the message of the Gideon ministry. Jerry was an active water sportsman enjoying both fishing and waterskiing. He loved to hike the Blue Ridge Mountains, ride his motorcycle, play golf and work in his yard. Jerry was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He served in the church kitchen, washing pots and pans after the Wednesday night dinners. Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years of marriage, Roxanne Reynolds Gill; son Randall Gill (Carrie) of Winter Garden, FL; daughter Tami Heaberlin of DeLand, FL; Brother Kenneth Gill (Jeannie), sister Betty Ann Wilson (A.J.); and grandchildren Elizabeth Lane Johnson, Arden Grace Gill, Scott Lawson Heaberlin, Samantha Marie Heaberlin and Bryan Keith Heaberlin. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 28th at 10am at Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand, Florida.
