Gunther Gerhard Ludewig, 93 of DeLand passed away January 1, 2025 at Wellsprings
Retirement Community, Apopka. He was born in Manhattan, New York on November 9,
1931and moved to DeLand in 1973 from Columbus, Mississippi. Gunther was a Public
Health, Occupational Medicine Specialist in the United States Air Force. During his 21
years in the USAF, Gunther served in many locations to include, England, Germany,
Canada, and multiple locations throughout the United States. Gunther also loved to serve
his community, as he loved being a Shriner having volunteered for many roles, such as
Circus Dad, Moped Motor Core and transporting children in need to the Tampa Shriners
Hospital on many occasions. He is predeceased by his wife Peggy, to whom he was
married for 58 years prior to her passing in February 2018. Survivors include his sons
Michael Ludewig (Elaine) of Raleigh, NC, Steven Ludewig (Wen) of Princeton, NJ, John
Ludewig of St. Petersburg, FL, Thomas Ludewig (Joya) of Woodbridge, IL, William Ludewig
(Susan) of Scottsdale, AZ, and David Ludewig (Ellen) of DeLand, FL. There are also 14
grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday,
January 9th from 5-7pm at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel. Burial will take place Friday,
January 10th 10:30 AM at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
