Helen Novak Brooks Tobin, 93, of Ormond Beach, Florida, and formerly of Scott Township, PA., passed away peacefully, Monday morning at the Bridgeview Nursing and Rehab Center in Ormond Beach after an illness. She was the widow of P. William Tobin. Born in Olyphant, daughter of the late William Alfred and Mary Begey Novak, she was a graduate of Scott High School, and was a member of S.S. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years as a secretary for the Kodak Corporation. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many, who enjoyed hiking, traveling, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, cooking, reading, and cross stitching. As a teen, she was an avid basketball player, and obtained multiple awards. She loved animals, especially her beloved dog “Smokee Zee Brooks”, and was a devoted member of the SPCA. She is survived by her brother, Theodore “Ted” Novak and wife Cynthia of Scott Twp., PA.; her step-daughter, Carol Lawson and husband, C. Rogers, of Spotsylvania, VA.; granddaughters, Elsbeth McLanahan and husband Marty, of Raleigh, NC., and Meaghan Lawson, of Spotsylvania, VA.; and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her beloved husband P. William Tobin, and her dog “Smokee Zee Brooks”, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and John Novak. There are no funeral home viewing hours. There will be a Funeral Divine Liturgy on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in S.S. Cyril & Methodius Church, River St., Olyphant, to be celebrated by Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, Pastor. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Scott Twp. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the Church. Arrangements by the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, Dickson City.
