James Duhring born December 20, 1949 died Feb. 15, 2026. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, at St. Peter Catholic Church in DeLand. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand.
James moved to this area in 2016 from his birthplace of Palo Alto, California.
At the age of 12, Jim got his first job as a paperboy, working relentlessly and earning the title of "Best Paperboy of the West Coast." He was awarded a new bicycle by the paper and was featured in an article.
After school, he went on to become a transfer trucker, who could do jaw-dropping, highly skilled feats that other experienced drivers were not able to perform.
He also became a carpenter and an architect, who designed and built homes single-handedly from foundation to roof.
Jim was an altar boy as a youth, and a devout Catholic for all his life.
He graduated from Foothill Junior College.
Jim was a child of the 1960s cultural environment. As he matured, he became a student of the economist Frederic Bastiat, and the Founding Fathers, which formed the rest of his life's viewpoints. He had a strong sense of loyalty, and a work ethic like no other. He was an incredible storyteller, a keeper of facts, a teacher and friend.
He enjoyed square dancing, golfing, reading and philosophy, and was an avid 49ers fan. He had a quick wit, a sharp sense of humor, and a big heart for family. He will be missed.
James is survived by Linda, his best friend of eight years; his 7children, Debbie, Rachel, Veronica, Catherine and Joseph, all of California, and James III and Daniel, both of Florida; grandchildren Isabella, Maise, Robert, Vincent, Grace, Zoe, Cyrus and James IV; and twin sister Julie Anderson as well as her children John and Thea Anderson , Thea's children Alexandria and Elizabeth; and many members of the Auby family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Estelle Duhring, and ex-wife, Cathy Martin Duhring
