James Walter Jones

James Walter Jones "Jim", age 76, of Deland, Florida,  passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Jim was born September 28, 1947 in East St Louis, Illinois, a son of William and Edith Mae Smitherman Jones. He married the love of his life, Celia Marie Barnhill on December 01, 1978 in Deltona, FL.

He was raised as a devoted Baptist. Jim was a carpenter and retired from Volusia County School District in 2004. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, working with his hands and especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren. Jim loved sports and watching FSU  football with his wife and family was top on the list.  He was  a  Little League Baseball/Softball/ Basketball Coach for 10 yrs in DeLand, FL. Jim Played tennis and was on the DeLand Tennis League which is where he met Celia. Jim was also a member of the Monday Mens group DeLeon Springs, FL

He is survived by his spouse Celia Marie Jones of Deland, FL; four daughters, Betty Jones Pierce (Russell), Emily Jones Thompson (Marcus), Karie Jones Voigts, and Vicky Jones; twelve grandchildren, Hannah, Sage (Billy), Garrett, Amanda, Katelyn, Blake, Maeganne, Ava, Russell Kayden, Micah, Luke, and Everly; two great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Mason; one brother, Butch Jones; Sister-in-Law, JoAnne Rodkey (Carl); and his nephew, Chris Jones, and two nieces Sandy Jones Kiernan and Paula Branz.  

Arrangements will be handled in the care of Allen-Summerhill Funeral Homes & Crematory.
