Jeannie Caroline Zayas, born on November 4, 1958, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, and raised in DeLand, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jeannie’s journey began in Wisconsin but at the age of five, she and her family moved to DeLand, where she became a beloved hometown girl. Her love for the community was evident throughout her life, and she fondly attended Saint Peter's Catholic School during her youth.
For over 20 years, Jeannie worked as a Dental Assistant for her father, Dr. Edward Zwicker, the longest-practicing dentist in Volusia County. She was deeply proud of her work alongside her father and cherished the many relationships formed with patients over the years. Later in life, Jeannie retired from the state of Florida where she worked as an Administrative Assistant, further showcasing her dedication and strong work ethic.
Above all, Jeannie had a heart full of love for Christ, and her unwavering faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She found joy in sharing the deep love and teachings of Christ with all those around her, making a profound impact through her words and actions. Jeannie was deeply passionate about her women’s ministry, where she served as a beacon of love, kindness, and generosity, always uplifting others and inspiring those she encountered.
Her compassion extended beyond people, as Jeannie had a profound love for animals, finding comfort and joy in their companionship. But perhaps the greatest joy in her life was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, and her eight grandchildren held a special place in her heart. The memories they created together will forever be treasured.
Jeannie was also blessed to have shared her life with her devoted husband, Albert. Together, they traveled to many beautiful destinations, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Their time spent living in North Carolina was particularly dear to her, a chapter filled with love and peace.
Jeannie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Edward and Diane Zwicker, as well as her sister Marie Parr. She is survived by her loving husband, Albert, her daughters: Shannon (John) Meyers, Aubrey (Dennis) Meeske, Christina (Dustin) Mechtel, and son, Andrew (Tahir Szostak) Zayas. She is also survived by her sisters Kathy Paulk and Lorie Mims, as well as her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy: Matthew, Michael, Kaitlyn, Ryan, McKenzie, Liam, Adalyn, and Rio.
Jeannie’s legacy is one of deep faith, boundless love, and unwavering kindness. Her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her family, friends, and community will always remember her for her warmth, love, and the lasting legacy of faith she leaves behind.
The family welcomes all who knew and loved her to a Celebration of Life which will be held at Saint Theresa Fellowship Hall at St. Peter Catholic Church 359 New York Avenue West, DeLand, FL on Saturday, January 18th at 11:30 a.m.
