JoAnn Crawford Purvis, 86, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Maggie Mae Smith Crawford and James Madison Crawford on July 30, 1931. She was the youngest of six children to include three brothers, Kenneth Crawford, Donald Crawford, and Marvin Crawford, and sisters, Lillian Crawford Ramsey and Cynthia Elizabeth Crawford Purvis. Her family moved to Pierson, Florida in 1945. She is a Pierson High School graduate and played on the basketball team. She married Harry Frederick "Red" Purvis on June 2, 1951 in a ceremony performed by Reverend Coy Franklin Purvis in Groveland, Florida. She is survived by her children, Lynn Franklin Purvis, Cindy Lou Purvis, and Michael Dean Purvis, and grandson, Ryan Michael Purvis. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 31st from 6-8pm at Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1st at 10am at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand. Burial will follow at Oakdale Emporia Cemetery in Pierson.
