Joan was born Dec.14th, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY. Her date of death was June 4th,2024 in Deland, Fl .She was born into the blended O'Hehir family and survived her many beloved siblings. Joan was a 1st Generation Irish American and devoted Catholic.
Her devoted husband Gilbert Hahn was also of Brooklyn,NY predeceased her in 2014. Joan lost her oldest son John in 2000 to cancer. She is survived by her daughter Catherine LaTourette and son Gilbert Hahn and her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Joan's grandchildren are Richard LaTourette III and Michael LaTourette.
Richard and spouse Victoria blessed Joan with her great grandson Richard LaTourette IV, whom she treasured.Michael has married Rieshelle in 2022 and she gained a new step great grandson Damie Parong.
Joan graduated from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, NY.She worked at New York Telephone and mainly helped her husband Gilbert with various part time work while raising her children. Notably her jobs at Harmon Kardon, Richard's Laboratories and Abraham and Straus department store helped to begin their purchase of a travel trailer to camp with their children. Joan's work in retail at Abraham & Straus was also primarily the source of proud payment on a retirement lot for their 2nd home in Sunset Beach, NC.They raised their family in Lindenhurst, Long Island until they retired to Sunset Beach, North Carolina that became the family's beloved beach home. At Abraham & Straus department store Joan worked in the children's shoes area for many years and customers would call her "The Shoe Lady". Joan was a proud wife, mother and homemaker when not working.
Joan and Gil took their family all over America to camp by National Treasures and Historical sites. and further travels included Italy twice, China, Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii. They thoroughly enjoyed museums and history They attended Catholic events and NYPD support events together their entire lives. Joan was a dedicated police spouse. Together they helped the sick in their parish and gave rides to those needing support to church and medical facilities.They both supported widows and widowers in their retirement community. Joan enjoyed baseball since childhood and also some hockey and football and horse racing through her family.. Joan and her husband Gil thoroughly enjoyed state and national parks and the wonders of Mother Nature. .After Gil passed she moved to be with her daughter Cathy in Florida a few years after.
In Florida, Joan joined her family in many adventures and also with her daughter's friends. Joan became a traveler again with Cathy, Gil and her family and friends on local jaunts around Florida and cruises to the Caribbean and Europe.
Joan was a loving and caring person to all who enjoyed her distinctly Irish personality . She supported her children and grandchildren emotionally through all of their lives. Joan had a very good life in New York, North Carolina and Florida. Her wisdom and cheerful disposition were well known to all who knew her. Her 91 plus years were a Life Well LIved .
A Catholic Mass will be held at St.Ann's in DeBary @26 Dogwood Dr on Friday June 28th at 10 am, Celebration of Life to immediately follow at Meadowlea Village Clubhouse off Carter Rd in Deland,Fl between SR 11 and Marsh Rd. 11:30 to 4 pm.
