John Dwaine Collins

John (Jay) Dwaine Collins Sr (64). Jay was born in Canton, OH to Robert Lynn Collins and Martha Elaine (Curry) Hockenberry, on June 14, 1959. Jay was called home to His Lord and Savior on March 22, 2024 at his home in DeLand, FL.

Jay served in the United States Navy, and was a long haul truck driver/owner operator before becoming disabled due to an illness in 2001. Jay loved his family most of all and spending time with them. He also loved riding his motorcycle, traveling, fishing, barbequing, spending time with animals and watching sports. He was especially excited about becoming a great grandfather later this year.  

Jay is survived by his wife of 37 years, Denise R. (Jacobs) Collins (DeLand), His son Robert Dotson (Melissa) of Northwood, OH, daughter Samantha Negley (Jaymes) of DeLand, FL , son John Collins II (Jordan) of DeLand, FL, grandsons Robert Dotson II (Eleanor), Hunter Dotson, and Conner Dotson all of Northwood, OH. Granddaughters Bailey Edwards, & Harmony Collins both of DeLand, FL, Step-Mother Ada Collins of Fostoria, OH, Mother-in-law, Dell Hoecke of Glencoe, MN, siblings Aaron Collins of Fostoria, OH, and Renee Ewing (Robert) of Oregon, OH, and a host of  in laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Collins, Martha E. Hockenberry, brother Robert L. Collins (infant), Father in-law James W. Gildea Sr. and his Step-Father Edwin D. Hockenberry.

Allen Summerhill Funeral Home DeLand is in charge of cremation and a Memorial of Life BBQ is being planned for a future date in June.
