John Raymond (Hutch) Hutchinson 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home on January 31, 2025 in DeLand, FL. Hutch was born in Allentown, PA on May 16, 1949. He served honorably with the U.S. Army as a Preventive Medicine Specialist in Korea and the National Guard in Hollywood, FL. His commendations included Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), and Sharpshooter M-16 Rifle.
Hutch is survived by his loving wife Claudyne Cassella Hutchinson, his two daughters Heather Leigh Goodwin and Kelly Anne Hutchinson, his granddaughter Kaleigh Marie Goodwin, grandson Cody Allen Naves, his brother E. Thomas Horn Hutchinson (Cyndee), nephews, nieces, and great nephews /nieces. He was pre-deceased by his parents Edwin Joseph Hutchinson and Priscilla Dade Hutchinson.
He attended Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ft. Lauderdale College. Hutch moved with his wife Claudyne from Hollywood, FL to DeLand in 1982 and worked as a window clerk at the DeLand Post Office. He was also the designated philatelic seller of collectible stamps.
An avid music lover, Hutch played the 12- string rhythm guitar in the 60’s rock band, Shades of 60’s at various venues around DeLand and surrounding areas. He loved attending tribute band concerts at the Athens Theatre. A lover of all sports, Hutch was able to attend the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT, experiencing the thrill and excitement of speed skating, skiing, and figure skating. He also accompanied his wife Claudyne, to Europe and Canada for figure skating competitions. Hutch was an avid Red Sox fan through thick and thin and was able to attend the 2004 World Series parade in Boston, MA. He enjoyed motorcycle trips with his brother Tom to Colorado, Montana, New England, North Carolina and rode Tale of the Dragon at Deals Gap.
A celebration of life with Military Honors will be held at the Allen- Summerhill Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am-12:00 pm prior to noon service officiated by The Reverend C. Blake Rambo. Interment will be at a later date at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL.
