Joyce Shuman, was a beloved mother, devoted wife, and accomplished businesswoman. She passed away on May 10, 2026, at her home in DeLeon Springs, Florida. Joyce was 90 years old.
Born on March 4, 1936, in Winder, Georgia, Joyce grew up with the warmth and resilience
that would define her throughout her remarkable life. She later moved to Florida, where she graduated from DeLand High School in 1953. That same year, on June 19, 1953, she married the love of her life, Jack Shuman, beginning a partnership that would span decades and touch countless lives.
Together, Joyce and Jack built an impressive legacy in agriculture and business. As co-owners of Shuman Farms and Shuman Fruit Company, they established themselves as pillars of the local farming community. Their entrepreneurial spirit extended well beyond the region, as they also owned and operated Fine Foliage of Florida and Superior Green, S.A. Through these ventures, Joyce demonstrated a sharp business acumen, tireless work ethic, and genuine care for the people who worked alongside her.
Joyce was deeply committed to her community, dedicating her time and energy to numerous organizations. She was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi, the LYLAS, and the Krewe of Amalie. She also served as a Pillar of Florida Hospital of Service, reflecting her lifelong commitment to giving back and supporting the well-being of others. A woman of boundless curiosity and adventurous spirit, Joyce cherished the opportunity to explore the world. She and Jack traveled around the world visiting Germany, England, Ireland, Scotland, Costa Rica, Egypt, and many other destinations throughout Europe and the United States. These journeys enriched her life and provided her with stories and
memories she loved to share with family and friends.
Above all, Joyce was a devoted mother, “Nana” and a loving presence in the lives of those closest to her. She possessed a rare ability to make people feel valued and welcome, and her generosity of spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack. Joyce is survived by her children, Su Edgar (Stephen); and Steve Shuman (Virna) and her “bonus” daughter, Gail Reynolds. She is survived by her grandchildren, Mara Hunt, Cera Troy (Eric), Samuel Edgar, Elizabeth Belise (Chase), Dawson Shuman (Callie), Brittany Ritchey, and Fernanda Coblentz (Jari). She is survived by her great grandchildren, Elana & Parkre Hunt, Arya, Ivey & Ryla Troy, Sloane Shuman, Cameron Tabor, Cheyanne & Savanna Ritchey, Alessandro Esquivel and Luciano Vaglro.
Joyce's family finds comfort in the knowledge that she lived a full and purposeful life, and they hold fast to the promise of eternal peace through the grace of God. Her faith, though quietly held, was a steady source of strength throughout her life, and they trust she now rests in the loving arms of her Creator, reunited with those who went before her.
The family invites those who knew and loved Joyce to join them in celebrating a life lived with purpose, grace, and unwavering love at Stetson Baptist Church on May 14, 2026. The
viewing will be at 9:00 am, her service at 10:00 am and graveside to follow at Johnson Lake Cemetery.
