It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kathaleen (Kay) B. Thoman, 88 of Deltona FL. Kay went peacefully in her sleep on January 15, 2024 of natural causes. Kathaleen was born January 30, 1935 in Cortland NY to Rupert and Katherine Bays. She was predeceased by her four siblings: Robert (Fran) Bays, Ruth (Thomas) Gibson, Tony (Evelyn) Bays and John Bays (surviving wife Deloris).
Kathaleen was born and raised in Virgil NY where she attended and graduated high school. She later attended St Joseph’s College of Nursing, graduating in 1956 earning her RN degree. She married Paul Porter Thoman on November 9, 1957 in Cortland NY. They relocated from Camillus, NY to Cortland where she was employed at Cortland Memorial Hospital and then later was the Director of Nursing at Highgate Manor Nursing Home. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1984 they moved to Deltona FL, where Kay continued her career at Deltona Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center as the Assistant Director of Nursing until she retired in 1998. She is survived by her husband, Paul Porter Thoman of Deland, FL. Children, Todd (Janice) Thoman of Smyrna, NY, Charles Thoman of Chapel Hill, NC, Pamela (Timothy) Talamo and Paula (Louis) Danna both from Deltona, FL. She has 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 12pm-3pm at Alan Summerhill Funeral Parlor on New York Avenue, Deland, FL. There will be a memorial service later announced this summer in Virgil, NY where she will be laid to rest.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Susan K Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The family would also like to give a special thank you to Genetiva Hospice and Blue Palms Health and Rehabilitation of Deland (Formally Good Samaritan) for the care provided to Kay.
We will always carry Kay’s memory in our hearts. If we were to list words to describe Kay, they would be Loving, Caring, Tenacious, Intelligent, and Always Family First.
