Kim Christine Sanford, age 63, passed away on February 15, 2026. She was a true DeLand native, born on April 15, 1962, and was a proud graduate of DeLand High School, class of 1980.
Kim was a dedicated Radiologic Technologist who took pride in her work, caring for and mentoring others throughout her career. She spent the last 25 years of her career at AdventHealth Fish Memorial, as well as many years at the Daytona International Speedway Infield Care Center.
Kim was hardworking, generous, and funny. She loved many things: spending time with family and friends, crafting, animals (specifically her dog, grandcats, grandhorses, grandchickens, birds, and butterflies), gardening, thrifting, shopping and so much more, but her favorite thing to do was to be on the beach. She loved to walk the beach, collect shells, sit listening to the waves and people watch. Her passions and hobbies are carried on through her friends and family, as she always shared them with the people she loved.
She is survived by her loving mother, Shirley R. Dixon; her daughters, Jamie Sanford Beckley (Shannon) and Nikki Atkinson (Tommy); her siblings, Jerry (Michael), Terri, and Tim (Jeff); her cherished granddaughter, Brooke Atkinson; her best friend, Wendy Lopez; and her spoiled Chihuahua, Brownie. She is also survived by many extended family members, co-workers, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Kim was preceded in death by her fathers, James (Jim) F. Dixon and Leonard D. Hixson, Sr., her brother, Leonard (Lenny) D. Hixson, Jr, as well as other relatives and beloved pets.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Kim’s family is asking for donations to be made to causes that were important to her, such as colorectal cancer research, dog rescues, beach and marine life preservation, or wildlife conservations.
“May you always have a shell in your pocket and sand between your toes”
