Lois Sealander Ward, 93, of Orange City, Florida, passed away and entered the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 15, 2024. Lois was born on December 31, 1930, in Coral Gables, Florida.
Lois will be remembered as a woman whose dedication to the Lord Jesus Christ was manifested in every facet of her life. Her faith served as the foundation for her loving commitment to her husband, children, extended family, and her many friends. She was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice which she wholeheartedly committed to the praise of God. She was kind and caring, and her home was often open to the friends and acquaintances of her husband and children.
Lois is survived by her daughters Linda Ward Moedinger (Harry) and Carolyn Ward Hutchinson (Gary); her sons Carl Douglass Ward (Cherriel) and William Daniel Ward (Alba); nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband William Douglass Ward, daughter Susan Beverly Ward, father Carl Adolph Sealander, and mother Stella Ayers Sealander.
Raised in Coral Gables, Florida, Lois graduated from Ponce de Leon High School and went on to attend Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, as well as Florida State University. At Ponce High School, while serving as pianist for the school’s glee clubs, she met her husband-to-be, Bill Ward.
Bill and Lois were faithful members of Granada Presbyterian Church in Coral Gables, where both sang in the choir and served in the church kitchen. Once they retired to the Orlando area, they joined First Presbyterian Church and continued their devotion to ministry through the worship choir.
Lois loved the outdoors, especially vegetable gardening and caring for her fruit trees. She also enjoyed being near the water, shrimping, and fishing. Always involved with her children, she served as a Girls Scouts leader, a substitute teacher, and a school-trip chaperone. She directed adult and student choirs, soloed with various ensembles, and accompanied musicians on the piano.
Her last days were spent at a memory care facility, where she was still known for her joyful spirit, especially when singing hymns to Jesus, the words of which she remembered to the very end.
A graveside service will be held for Lois and Bill on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Florida National Veterans Cemetery at 6502 SW 102 Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Messiah Choral Society which both Lois and Bill had been involved in for several years.
