Louise Irene (Geake) Letter, age 91, of Deland, Florida passed away peacefully
surrounded by her loving husband and five children on August 24, 2024. Louise was
born in Barre, Vermont on March 10, 1933, the daughter of Edward and Minnie Rose
(Ratell) Geake. As a young girl growing up in Barre, Louise enjoyed working at the
Magnet movie theater, Homer Fitts, and as a telephone operator.
She married Raymond Joseph Letter in St. Monica Church in Barre on August 14, 1954.
Louise was devoted to her Catholic faith and to her family. Her greatest joys were
creating a happy home and being a loving mother to her children. She was a fantastic
cook, serving up meals that her children recreate to this day. She loved going places
such as Bear Mountain (Allis) State Park and Lake Elmore with the family for cookouts
and swimming. The kids will always remember their family trips to Maine, walking the
Marginal Way, and staying in Ogunquit and Wells Beach.
Visits to Florida paved the way for a move there in 1975. Louise loved the ocean and
walking the beach with family members. As the children grew older and having children
of their own, they all remained close to their grandparents. For twenty years, Louise,
Ray and their children celebrated week-long family reunions together. What a joy it was
to have that special time creating lifelong memories together.
Ten days before passing, Louise and Ray celebrated 70 years of marriage. All of their
children were with them, continuing the legacy of caring and commitment that Louise
and Ray established with their love.
Louise is survived by her husband Raymond; her daughters Rachel, Diane and Susan;
her sons Raymond Jr (Chip) and David; her brother Ronald Geake; and 10
grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Louise is predeceased by her brothers Reginald Geake, Walter Geake, Kenneth Geake,
and a great granddaughter Jessica Neal.
