Mary DeRose Marks, age 92, passed away peacefully on 12/29/25 at Cornerstone Hospice Home in Orlando, FL.
Born on 2/25/1933 in Sligo, Pennsylvania, a true coal miner's daughter, Mary spent her life dedicated to her family, home, faith, and flowers. Besides being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, she was an incredibly gifted florist. She was able to fulfill her dream of owning her own floral shop, The Flower and Gift Box at Brandywine in DeLand, FL, for many years. Mary considered DeLand her home, although for the last 7 years she lived close to her family in Oviedo, FL.
Mary is survived by her children, Sherrie Faulkner of Oviedo, FL; Karen (Merle) Davenport of Skiatook, OK; Eric (Donai) Marks of Davenport, IA; and Carol (Todd) Souza of Winter Springs, FL. Mary has 7 grandchildren: Andy Dearborn, Brittany (Brian) Norman, Graham (Kelly) Faulkner, Dwaine Faulkner, Marin Faulkner, Nathan Marks, and Corey Souza; and 4 great grandchildren: Oliver, Alexander, Benjamin, and Emma. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert S. and Dorothy L. Greenawalt; her husband of 52 years, Robert L. Marks; and her brothers, Herbert G. Greenawalt and Ronald G. Greenawalt.
In accordance with her wishes, a private family service was held. She was laid to rest on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in DeLand, Florida.
Mom, Grammy, Miss Mary: we will miss your strength, resilience and tenacity; your work ethic, fabulous meals, funny quotables, spark and spunk, faith, creativity, and visualizing beauty everywhere you went. Thank you for the legacy you have left your family ~ we love you so much and life won't be the same without you.
