Mary D. Roberts

Mary was born Mary Ruby Dowling in Hoboken, Georgia. Everyone in her hometown including family knew her as Ruby but in our area she was known as Mary because that is the name her husband preferred to address her as. 
Mary passed away from a sudden illness at her home in Lake Helen, Florida on July 29, 2022 while under Hospice care.
Mary graduated in 1952 from Hoboken High School and attended college for a couple years and upon visiting DeLand she became employed with Bell South as a telephone operator.  Mary met the love of her life, Rodney Roberts from Lake Helen and in 1954 they married. They built their home and life in this area. She was a devout member of her church having served in many areas of the ministry and a 67 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Lake Helen. Mary became a full time housewife and part time secretary for her husbands businesses, Roberts Tile Company, Melody Coin Laundrymat and their citrus business.  They remained married 67 years until Rodney passed away in 2021.  She is survived by her two daughters, Connie Ashcraft ( Jimmy) and Carmen Bass (Daniel) . Mary is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. 
Mary was a beautiful woman both inside and out and will be forever loved and cherished by her family and friends.
