Michael Arvay, aged 64, passed away unexpectedly on April 13, 2024 at his home in Deland, Florida. Born on December 27, 1959, in Brooklyn, NY to Mary and Stephen Arvay. Michael is survived by his wife of 22 years Cathy (Larsen) his son Andrew Chase Arvay, 4 sisters, sister-in-law and brother-in-law. The family moved to Glendale, Queens, where Michael spent his growing up years. Michael, in his teenage years, thumbed his way across the United States stopping in Colorado for a short time before moving on to California. Always and forever the New Yorker, Michael returned home and worked at the Fulton Fish Market in New York City selling seafood to high end hotels and restaurants and then became a long haul truck driver. Michael served in the United States Navy stationed in Jacksonville, Florida assigned to the USS Forrestal. Michael became a Class A mechanic/welder for Great Dane in Jacksonville, the only Class A Mechanic in the shop.
Michael was a devout Christian reading a passage from the Bible daily.
Michael had many interests: During his teenage years he would spend time in the East Village, New York City, taught himself to play the guitar; this was the one thing that was a constant in his life. During good times, and challenging times he turned to his guitar and the Lord. He and friends formed a band and had the opportunity to play at Disney World, Fl. Avid concert goer showing off his box full of ticket stubs to all the concerts he attended. Things just seem to come naturally to him – gamer (major War Craft player) fishing, surfing, camping; Hiking a portion of the Appalachian Trail starting in New York. Top chef at home and he was an excellent chef, always excited whenever he tried a new dish and you always wanted seconds especially his collard greens with ham hock. He was a great conversationalist.
With all his loves the one true love was the one he had for his son, Andrew. When Andrew was a baby, every morning Michael would sit beside his crib so the first thing Andrew saw when he opened his eyes was Michael. Andrew was Michaels little boy and Michael was Andrews Daddy. They loved each other.
Michael you will be missed. Rest in Peace.
