Michael L Dougherty Sr (Mike) of DeLand Florida died November 2nd at Halifax Health Hospice of Orange City at the age of 80. He was born in Keokuk, Iowa, October 2, 1942. His parents were Robert and Dorothy Dougherty and was one of six children, Robert II, Michael, Roger, Douglas, David (deceased) and Lisa. He graduated from Keokuk Senior High School in 1961. He was joined in holy matrimony to Harriet Svendsen April 4, 1964 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Upon returning to the United States, he graduated from the University of Iowa in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1976 he graduated from Florida Technological University (now UCF) with a Master of Science in Engineering. He was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida.
His working life as a member of a large family started at a very early age but he was especially proud of his achievements as Director of Research for Dana Corporation in Michigan at the end of his career where he received many patents for his work.
His hobbies were many and included woodworking, golf, hunting, and flying his drone. UCF football and riding his three wheel Can-Am motorcycle were his passions.
He is survived by his wife Harriet, four children, Gwenn, Mike Jr., Patrick, and Katherine and eleven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Glenwood Presbyterian Church, 3140 Grand Avenue, DeLand, FL 32720.
