Nancy Rebecca Buckles Warensford Roya
Born August 30, 1934, to Paul and Thelma Buckles of Barberville, Florida, Nancy Rebecca Buckles Warensford Roya, 86, passed away on September 12, 2020, at AdventHealth DeLand. The youngest of five children, she was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings: Morbin Buckles, Pauline Gaston, Gladys Clifton, and Lucille Byrd.
Nancy graduated from Pierson High School and married Daniel Warensford in 1952. They were the first couple married at the newly formed Barberville Pentecostal Holiness Church, now Abundant Life Fellowship. Trading the sunshine of Florida for snowy mountains and covered bridges, Danny and Nancy moved their family of five children to Northfield Falls, Vermont, in 1968. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Danny in 1985, as well as their three youngest children: Lenora "Red" Warensford Todd in 1992, Randall "Bubba" Warensford in 2019, and Nancy "Duda" Warensford Comette in August 2020. Her son-in-law Ron Sicely also preceded her in death in July 2020.
Nancy married Cleave Roya in 1986, and they continued to live in Vermont until retiring and returning to the Florida sunshine in 2000. Over the years, Nancy baked cakes and pies, fried donuts, decorated wedding cakes, sewed clothes, and made wedding dresses for family, friends, and neighbors. She served as Postmaster of Northfield Falls for 26 years. She loved to sew, crochet, knit, and quilt. She enjoyed cooking and added Vermont ingredients like fiddlehead greens, rhubarb, and maple syrup to her repertoire. Throughout the year, she liked fishing, gardening, reading novels, watching Westerns, and working on jigsaw puzzles, but each October she would drop everything to start writing Christmas cards to the two hundred people on her mailing list. She loved to play games, and, although never a sore loser, she could not help but give a small maniacal chuckle when she won. She loved playing the piano for family sing-alongs while accompanied by her sons-in-law on their guitars. She sang in the church choir and served with her fellow church ladies on many projects at the First Baptist Church of Pierson. She tended sick or hurting loved ones and comforted the downhearted. She really liked bleu cheese, hamburgers, and ice cream. She loved to host a luncheon or party, and her picture should be in the dictionary next to the word "hospitality."
Nancy is survived by her husband, Cleave, her daughters, Thelma "Bunny" Sicely of Orange City and Betty "Kicky" Bradley of Morriston, son-in-law Larry Comette of Vermont, daughter-in-law Penny Warensford of Vermont, and her stepchildren, Chuck (Sonja) Roya of Vermont, Ginny Roya of New Hampshire, and Kim (Doug) Young of Vermont. She is also loved and sorely missed by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, and so many friends all across the country. She lived a life brimming over with the love and joy she found in her Lord Jesus, and she shared that love with everyone she met.
