Olvido Perlmutter, 91, of DeLand, passed away January 16, 2026, at the Halifax Hospice Care Center in Orange City. She was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, on May 11, 1934. After leaving Puerto Rico, Olvido lived in many different places, including Chicago, Queens and New York City, Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and Sanford, before eventually moving to DeLand.
After graduating from high school, she worked in Chicago at a factory making fishing rods. She later moved to New York, where she was employed by the Gillette Company for 20 years. Following that chapter of her life, Olvido retired as a certified teacher’s assistant.
Olvido was Catholic and had a true green thumb, with a passion for planting flowers and nurturing her garden. She also had a deep love for nature and birds, proudly maintaining a collection of birdhouses that brought her great joy. Known for her wonderful sense of humor, Olvido often made up her own words, making family and friends laugh with her playful personality. She loved cooking large meals for others and was always willing to help her neighbors in any way she could.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a Memorial Service beginning at 5:00 PM at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel, located at 126 E. New York Avenue, DeLand, Florida 32724.
