Patricia Snowden Lane, 91, of DeLand, FL, passed away on October 29, 2023. She was born on July 3, 1932, in Louisville, KY, to the late Reverend Dr. R. Grady Snowden, Sr. and Jessie Lee Snowden. She was predeceased by her beloved brothers, The Reverend R. Grady Snowden, Jr. and Dr. Robert Thomas Snowden.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Dr. Fred Lane, her sons Patrick (Danette) Lane and Cameron (Teresa) Lane, and daughter Freda (Forest) Smith. She was grandmother to 13: Jessie (Eliot) Fay of New Hampshire, Daniel Lane of Lake Helen, Aubrey (Chris) Jenkins of Orlando, Lindsey (Albert) Watson of Naples, Forest Smith of Louisiana, Barbara Purvis of DeLand, Rachel (Zach) Myers of DeLand, Erin Ebert of DeLand, Taylor (Easten) Woolf of Atlanta, Sarah (Kyle) Grover of DeLand, April (Brandon) Dark of Jacksonville, Emma Geyer of Lake Helen, and honorary grandson Josiah (Melissa) Armes of Winter Park. Patricia was also blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: Eli and Sadie Fay, Malik and Samara Jenkins, Albert and Beau Watson, Jack Purvis, Mae, Molly and Lane Myers, Caleb Grover, Hannah, Abigail and Lydia Armes. She also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Patricia grew up in DeLand and was a 1949 graduate of DeLand High School, where she was an accomplished musician and a proud member of the DHS band. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Stetson University in 1953 and a Master of Arts in 1975. She met her husband, Fred, at Stetson and they were married in 1953.
Patricia's passion for education led her to become a teacher and high school librarian from 1967 to 1973. She was the Director of the Media Center at DeLand High School from 1973-1984 and later joined her husband in the health care field as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator from 1984 to 1995 at DeLand Convalescent Center and Fairview Manor in Daytona Beach.
Patricia found joy and community in her places of worship. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of DeLand enjoying the time when her father was pastor (1940-1953) and later a loyal member of the Kepler Road Baptist Church family.
In her free time Patricia enjoyed Scripture, music, genealogy, gardening, and reading. She spent her life sharing her faith with her family, friends, and community. She fiercely loved her family and spent her final years at her home in DeLand enjoying the company of her loyal and loving husband and their extended family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday November 6 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of DeLand.
