Rick Rawlins

Richard Erman Rawlins, 72 of DeLand, FL passed away May 1st after a lengthy battle of multiple health issues. "Captain Rick Rawlins" was born April 26th 1949 to Derris "Dink" Rawlins and Irene Holladay Rawlins in Columbia, South Carolina. In 1961, after his Fathers retirement from the Army, the family moved to their hometown of DeLand, FL. Dink purchased Highland Park Fish Camp the following year which would change the trajectory of Rick's life.

Along with Rick's brother Ron Rawlins, the two went on to continue their Fathers legacy of Highland Park Fish Camp for over 59 years and the legacy still continues to this day. As a freshwater fishing guide, he spent a lot of his time on the St. Johns River and was known for being an advocate for the river and his community of West Volusia County. Rick was a devout Christian and a member of Stetson Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was a proud member of the DeLand High School graduating class of 1967.

Rick was a fiercely devoted family man and leaves behind his true love and wife of 51 years Deborah "Debbie" Rawlins. His Son Rush Rawlins (Courtney) daughter Bryn Rawlins Adams (Chad). Grandsons Gunner Rawlins, Kayden Sanders, William Rawlins and Reid Rawlins. Rick also leaves behind his four siblings, Ron Rawlins, Debra Hipp, Sandra Slaughter and Lynn Burns. Rick was known for his optimism, kindness and tenacious attitude for what he believed in. His integrity, character and positivity left a lasting impact on his mentors, friends and family.

A funeral service will be held Friday May 14th at 11:00am with a viewing prior to the service starting at 10:00am at Stetson Baptist Church, 1025 W. Minnesota Ave, DeLand, FL
