Roy Anker Erickson Jr., age 76, passed away on January 3, 2026. He was born on August 2, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Roy Anker Erickson and Beverly Meyer Erickson.
Roy was married to his beloved wife, Ruth Louise Erickson, for 47 years, just shy of their 48th wedding anniversary. The two met while attending Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, North Carolina, where Roy earned his bachelor’s degree. He later obtained his Master of Divinity from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio.
Roy dedicated his life and ministry to serving others, particularly those struggling with substance abuse. He faithfully served the community through his work with Stewart-Marchman, Volusia Regional Juvenile Detention Center, ACT Corporation, and The Salvation Army.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his children, Jessica Riedy, Roy Anker Erickson III, Joshua Erickson, and Rebekah Groover; his brother, Steve Meyer, and his eight cherished grandchildren, whom he adored being “Opa” to. Known affectionately as “Opa’s Daycare,” Roy was also proudly his family’s personal chauffeur and a constant presence in their lives.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel, located at 126 E. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32724.
