Shirley Denston Obituary

Shirley Mae Denston, 87, of Lake Helen, FL died April 15, 2022 after an aggressive battle with cancer. Shirley is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Denston, her two daughters, Kim Beers and Connie Hollingsworth, two granddaughters, Laura Perry and Amy Uppercue (Craig) and was blessed with six great grandchildren – all in Central FL. She is also survived by two sisters in West Virginia. Shirley will be missed by her extended family and friends in West Virginia, Virginia and Florida, particularly her church family from Stetson Baptist Church in DeLand, FL, where she and Bill were members for 37 years. Shirley sang in the choir for most of those 37 years. She retired after many years in Facilities Administration at Volusia County Public Schools. In retirement, Shirley enjoyed traveling with Bill and spending time with her great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Shirley’s favorite charity, outside of her own church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 20th at 11am at Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand, with the family receiving friends from 10-11am prior to the service.
