Theodore (Ted) De Cerchio, 71, DeLand, Florida, formerly of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home in Florida on May 30th. Ted was born in Darby in 1950, the son of Vincent N. and Hermine (nee Hoffmann) De Cerchio. He grew up in Broomall, Delaware County. Ted, an honor student, graduated from Marple-Newtown High School in 1968 where he participated in track, choir and school musicals. Ted attended Penn State University for two years before leaving college to travel around the world for a year. Ted worked in the medical field in support roles and groups throughout his life. He was an avid reader, spoke German, sang in a number of Philadelphia choirs, including the Mendelsshon Chorus of Philadelphia, and was an avid sports and music buff. Ted’s favorite performer was Frank Sinatra. In years past, Ted would join the pianist in the Reading Terminal singing Sinatra standards from the Great American Songbook. Ted was active in The Welcome House in Upper Darby. In his final year Ted moved to sunny Deland, Florida to be near his brothers. Ted is survived by his brothers, Vincent (Nick), Ken and Steve and their families. A private ceremony will be held for the family at a later date.
