Walter Winfield Mosley, age 88, of DeLand, Florida, passed away on March 20, 2026. He was born on August 23, 1937, in Umatilla, Florida, to James Winfield Mosley and Margaret Hooker Mosley.
Walter was born in Umatilla and raised in Tavares and Belle Glade, Florida. He graduated from Belle Glade High School, where he played both football and baseball. He continued his education at Stetson University, where he also played football and baseball and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. It was there that he met the love of his life, Carol, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage, and he later earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Shortly after their marriage, Walter and Carol began their life together in West Palm Beach, Florida, where they started their family. They later lived in Miami, Florida for more than 30 years, followed by time in Ormond Beach, Florida from 2000 to 2015. In 2006, they purchased a home in Cosby, Tennessee, where they enjoyed spending summers and falls gardening and relaxing, eventually residing there full-time from around 2014 to 2018. In December of 2018, they made DeLand, Florida their home, where Walter remained until his passing.
Walter was a Certified Public Accountant and held accounting positions with a school board, a law firm, banking institutions, and private businesses throughout his career.
He was a devoted member of University Baptist Church in Coral Gables, Florida, where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday school for children and youth, and played softball with the church’s men’s group. Walter’s faith was a foundation of his life, and he deeply valued his family, friends, and community.
Walter enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and interests, including fishing, golf, gardening, traveling, and following sports. He had a deep appreciation for history with a fondness of telling stories to add color. If Walter was in the vehicle with you, there was no need for a GPS, he seemed to know every shortcut and back road wherever he went. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family, friends, and beloved pets.
Walter is survived by his wife, Carol Luechauer Mosley; his daughter, Melinda Mosley; his son, Mark Mosley (Debbie); and his grandchildren, Daniel Bullard, Dean Mosley, and Meghan Mosley.
In accordance with his wishes, no services will be held.
