Walter Henry Peterson, age 75, of DeLeon Springs, Florida, passed away on March 19, 2026. Born on May 6, 1950, in DeLand, Florida, he was the son of Vernon Richard Peterson and Ruby Dora Jacob. Walter proudly served his country as a United States Army Vietnam Veteran and dedicated 50 years of his life as a citrus grower in his family-owned business.
Walter was a graduate of Florida State University, where he earned his Master’s degree in International Studies. He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in DeLand. Known for his grateful and appreciative nature, Walter was a devoted husband and father who cherished his family above all else. He was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all sports, even following March Madness up until his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Manitiane Peterson; his son, Robert King (Teresa); his sister, Louise Routzahn (Bruce); his brother, David Peterson (Linda); his nieces, Joy Rabeaux (Herve), Erika Ward (David), and Tina Lacey (Logan); and his nephews, Tyler Peterson, Jake Peterson (Ashley), and Todd Peterson.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Richard Peterson and Ruby Dora Jacob, as well as his brothers, Vernon Richard Peterson Jr. and Warren Charles Peterson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 28th at 11:00 AM at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 509 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, DeLand, Florida 32724. Military honors will take place prior to the start of the service.
